This is a song about a whale - NO!!!

The end of the school year is right around the corner and I am looking forward to it for sure. Time to get in some summer hours at work and save up those greenbacks! I'll be able to exercise and go cycling more often. Ahh, time for the finer things in life. And, of course, I will be able to get in some more quality practice time on the ol' saxophone! I am planning to perform a special solo recital at the end of September or early October so I definitely need the time.

Things are going alright for me these days, I guess. I went on a bike ride today and was attacked by a goose! I rode up to a lake near my house and I think one of the geese was guarding some eggs. When I approached it the goose started making noises at me and actually charged me and flapped its wings wildly! Scared the poop out of me and passers by in their cars got a good laugh at my expense.

I did sign the paperwork for my teaching assistantship a couple of weeks ago. Very exciting!! I finally will be able to practice what I want to do for the rest of my days - to pass on knowledge and experience in saxophone and music in general. It will be nice having responsibilities at the university. I felt this last year that I was kind of floating by as just a grad student and am looking forward to a change. I will be teaching the woodwinds methods class, coaching a saxophone quartet, and teaching private saxophone lessons. And FSU is footing the bill! Ha.

I found a new place to live for next year. I am moving in with three other saxophonists. Sheesh! That's gonna be nuts for sure.

The only real downside right now is that it seems to me that every woman I have an interest in hooks up with someone before I have the chance to get anywhere with them. It's really upsetting and demoralizing. Boo-hiss! But this topic is a can of worms and we'll kindly not go there for now.

The sax studio appears to be getting more closely acquainted as of late. A few of us have been making regular visits to a local pub near the music school calle Poor Paul's Pourhouse. It's a towny-type of place with pool, darts, and those NTN electronic trivia game thingies. Hopefully it will become a tradition. I have really missed the comeraderie of my former studio and would like to have something similar here in Florida. Hey, everyone needs friends, right?

Well, I guess that's enough for now. For all of you who wish to find another facet of the DooDoo's crazy mind, there is a link on this blog somewhere you might want to check out! Toodles!

That Odd Todd is so odd odd!

this is an audio post - click to play

Tee hee! Wow, haven't done one of those in a while. There's a new .gif and everything!

...and in other news...

So, why haven't I posted in the last eight days, YOU ask? The answer is quite complicated. I...I am just being LAZY. Sorry if I have ruined any lives out there in the ether. As I am writing this my desk is overflowing with tax forms, W-2s, interest reports, loan papers and the like. Yes, I am cognizant of the fact that it is April 14th, but my mastery of the sacred art of procrastination knows no bounds.

What else has been going on lately? I attended a saxophone workshop on the 9th at the University of Florida where I also performed a piece of music for the guest clinician who was visiting from Great Britain. It was a fun and educational experience. I received excellent input on my playing and also got to compare myself with some of the local talent here in Florida. It's sometimes good to know where you stand in the scheme of things. It helps to motivate me. I know that UF is FSU's main rival, but I must say I like their campus far better than mine. Shhh, don't tell anyone I said that!

I had the opportunity to go see Sin City last week. That movie owns!! If you are into graphic stylized violence (aka ASS KICKING) and gratuitous nudity (aka BOOBS) then this is the movie for you!!

A day of days.

Today was an interesting day. I woke up at around two in the afternoon and felt like going on another bike ride in the woods by my house. I live near this place called Governor's Park which is a large wooded area in the middle of the east side of Tallahassee. I found a trail there on Sunday and I wanted to follow it farther than I did on that day. The trail follows some train tracks and I was checking them out when I found a crew working to pick up old rails with a cool crane thingy mounted to a truck that was riding on the tracks. After that passed by I noticed that smoke was rising from one of the wooden ties and I figured it must of been from the truck dripping hot oil onto the wood which caused it to begin smoldering. I put out the "fire" with water I had with me and headed down the trail a bit until I came upon a huge grass field.

This field turned out to be on the edge of a wealthy neighborhood hidden among the bordering trees. As I rode up the huge hill this field was on I noticed two figures lying on the ground off in the distance. When I got closer I noticed they belonged to two young ladies sunbathing TOPLESS on a towel. I kept my distance as to keep from being a perv but it was pretty cool anyway! I then went back to the trail and made my way along it for a couple of miles until I found a maze of bike trails that were all labeled and rated for difficulty.

After I explored them for a while I found myself at this huge city park that I was not previously aware of. This park had picnic tables, disk golf courses, baseball fields, tennis and racquetball courts, a lake, and a bmx bike course with jumps and everything. It was all pretty cool. I was so tired after that ride that it took me a while to trudge back home.

Kind of a crazy time, huh? It was a nice change of pace though. School can get so monotonous, ya know?

Beyond exhausted.

Yep, I am still awake. Stupid monkey!! I for sure am going to slumberland now. Promise.

Exhausted.

That describes it exactly. Exhausted. I have no more haust left in me. Let me tell you all how my last few days have gone.

Friday I put in over eight hours at my job and then performed a three hour opera. Saturday I put in eight hours at my job and then performed a three hour opera. Today I put in yet another three hour opera performance after experiencing the phenomena of losing an hour due to Daylight Savings Time. I then foolishly decided to go on a two hour bike ride through the woods. Sheesh!!! Thankfully the opera is now over so this madness should be at its end.

I never realized how much losing an hour of time can matter. It threw off my body's internal clock and I have had a headache all day. Living originally in Arizona the concept of DST is still new to me.

..............................
I would like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to my dog Meesha out in AZ. Today is her 11th birthday! May it be a day of endless doggy treats and behind-the-ear scratches.
